Worried about Turkey Day Calories? Check This!

So most of us are looking forward to the once-a-year excuse to eat whatever our little hearts desire, because that’s what you’re supposed to do on Thanksgiving! But, how can you skirt around calories after Thanksgiving, to make up for it (and get rid of some of that guilt)?

Consider these ways to regain nutritional balance:

  • On the Big Day, leave yourself plenty of leftovers. You’ll still get to enjoy all the wonderful traditions of turkey ‘n gravy, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, but eat smaller portions. Your favorite treats will then last longer, and you can spread the heavy calories out over more days, decreasing the overconsumption-in-one-day damage.
  • As you’re out on Black Friday, do not fight for that parking space closest to the stores! Park further away, and walk. You can spread peace to others (who aren’t as keen as you), and maybe you can burn off some of the marshmallows from your sweet potatoes.
  • Trade in one glass of soda, wine, juice, or beer over the weekend for a glass of water. In fact, trade in one caloric drink each day over this festive weekend. You can easily save 100 calories each time you do this! Be green while you’re at it, by drinking water from the tap instead of from the bottle - save your environs and your cash!
  • After all the hustle of Turkey Day, the desire to cook may seem a bit daunting. Instead of calling out for pizza or passing through a McDonald’s drive through, grab a Promax bar and smile! You’ll save yourself a LOT of calories, fat, and cholesterol. You’ll be satisfied with the 20 grams of protein, and happy by choosing your favorite of the 11 awesome flavors! If you’d like to see how Promax Bars (a meal in themselves) stack up to some popular fast foods, Click Here. Impressive.

Tough Economy? Here are 5 Ways to Save Money on Lunch

  1. Go H20! Quench your thirst with tap water instead of soda; your body will thank you for passing on the sugar and artificial flavors/colors and your wallet won’t dry up as fast either.
  2. Step Up the Prep! If you can wrangle your schedule around a few extra minutes to prepare a lunch instead of buying one at your local deli, you could easily trim $2 off each meal. Your grocery bill may be higher, but your net savings will soar.
  3. Be High-Tech! If you’re going to run to the store and buy something, go online first, find a coupon you can use, and print it. Easy as 1-2-3. A popular coupon portal is www.coupons.com (link here). OR, some retailer websites actually allow you to download coupons to your store’s loyalty card, so you don’t even have to remember to use the coupon - it just gets applied! Now that’s high-tech.
  4. Get Wise with Size! Instead of the lazy man’s route of prepackaged, single serving packages of your veggies, cheese sticks, or cookies, buy these foods in bulk and then repackage in reusable containers. You can save money this way AND help the environment.
  5. Go Far with a Bar! Promax Bars could be your next best lunch. Packed with 20 grams of protein (like a standard serving of chicken) plus a great balance of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, Promax Bars satisfy your hunger and are a great meal replacement for less than $2.

Want to Boost Your Metabolism Naturally?

Don’t Forget the Importance of Muscle Mass…

By increasing your muscle mass, you can effectively boost your metabolism and help your body burn extra calories.

The goal is to increase metabolism, and one way to do that is to build “metabolically active” tissue in your body. Most notably, this means building more lean body mass (muscle tissue). Lean body mass has a higher metabolic rate than fat mass (adipose tissue) which is passive. Thus, pound for pound, lean body mass will burn more calories than fat mass, even while you’re at rest!

To build your lean body mass and boost your metabolism respectively, you will need two things: strength training or weightlifting, and adequate protein intake.

To help ensure you get adequate protein intake, Promax offers the popular Promax Bar which may serve as a supplement to your normal diet, or as a meal replacement option, depending on your specific protein needs. Promax Bars deliver 20g of our Promax Protein Blend, a proprietary blend only Promax delivers, in 11 delicious flavors.
